“I continue to learn from them
even beyond my time as a camper...”

The counselors I had as a camper made an impact on me by their attitude, affection, and laughter. I continue to learn from them even beyond my time as a camper. They were, and continue to be, my role models.

I hope this gift of a podium, made from the wood of the tree where so many of my camp memories took place, serves as a reminder to all who speak from it that those they are talking to are listening well beyond the speaker’s time behind the podium.

Kansas 4-H Foundation Scholarship Programs

The Foundation manages scholarship programs to provide incentives for educational pursuits and recognize outstanding achievements by 4-H'ers. Each year, awards are given at the Foundation’s annual Emerald Circle banquet, held in Manhattan, KS.

Scholarship dollars typically help to pay for a student's tuition, books or room and board. Some may also free-up time for additional coursework or pursuing an internship that provides one-of-a-kind on-the-job training.

Foundation President Gordon Hibbard announced nearly $42,000 in educational awards to fund post-secondary education and internships in 2008 and over $35,000 was distributed in 2009.

Current Impact

  • Scholarships are published in the January issue of the Kansas 4-H Journal, which goes to 9,100 families
  • Most scholarships are endowed with 25 times the scholarship amount for principal
  • Public announcement of scholarship recipients takes place at the Emerald Circle Banquet
  • Foundation issues a check to each scholarship recipient at the beginning of each semester
