Scholarships
"Kansas has a strong educational tradition and the 4-H scholarship donors help support the outstanding 4-H youth and alumni in pursuit of their educational goals," said Gordon Hibbard, Foundation president.
The Foundation manages scholarship programs to provide incentives for educational pursuits and recognize outstanding achievements by 4-H'ers.
Scholarship dollars typically help pay for a student's tuition, books or room and board. Some may also free-up time for additional coursework or pursuing an internship that provides one-of-its-kind on-the-job training, said Gordon Hibbard, president of the Foundation.
Hibbard announced nearly $42,000 in educational awards to fund post-secondary education and internships in 2008.
Current Impact:
- Scholarships are published in the January issue of the Kansas 4-H Journal, which goes to 9,100 families
- Most scholarships are endowed with 25 times the scholarship amount for principal
- Public announcement of scholarship recipients takes place at the Emerald Circle Banquet
- Foundation issues a check to each scholarship recipient at the beginning of each semester
