In response to recent attention surrounding the future of Rock Springs Ranch, the Kansas 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees is continuing to explore viable options for the ownership of Rock Springs Ranch, its camp and conference center that has served Kansas 4-H since 1946.
“This is an important process, and there are no easy answers,” said Lisa Pfannenstiel-Garrison, chair of the Kansas 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees. “The Board continues to evaluate possible paths forward. This includes exploring potential changes in ownership or alternative ownership models that position Rock Springs Ranch for the future while strengthening the Foundation’s ability to invest in Kansas youth statewide.”
The Kansas 4-H Foundation has a longstanding partnership with Kansas State University and K-State Extension in support of the Kansas 4-H program. While the Foundation has remained in communication with university leadership throughout this process, the Kansas 4-H Foundation is solely responsible for Rock Springs Ranch and decisions regarding its future ownership.
“We recognize the emotional connection so many of us have to Rock Springs Ranch,” Pfannenstiel-Garrison said. “We want to find a solution that positions Rock Springs Ranch to continue serving youth and adults into the future. The Board is committed to approaching this process with the prudent diligence it demands while seeking opportunities that honor the legacy of Rock Springs Ranch and preserve meaningful access for those who utilize the facility.”
As shared when the exploration process was announced, 2026 programming has continued as planned, including a full Kansas 4-H summer camp season at Rock Springs Ranch. As the process continues, the Foundation is not currently accepting reservations or registrations for 2027 to avoid making commitments to families or organizations while future ownership remains under consideration.
The Board recognizes the significance of this process to 4-H families, alumni, and communities across Kansas and appreciates the strong connection so many have to Rock Springs Ranch. Additional information will be shared as meaningful updates become available.
